The University of Wollongong Badminton Club has been running since 1972 and gradually becomes popular with time. In recent
years, the club has had around 100 members each year, representing students from many nations including Australia, China,
Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and more, showing a huge popularity
of badminton in this campus as a world sport.
One of the main objectives of the club this year is to promote badminton as a popular sport for relaxation, joy and friendship,
which are in fact the main purpose of many members joining our club.
Details of the benefits are described in our flyers. We will warmly welcome new members to join us and promise not to
let you down this year. Any suggestions to promote the club and to fulfil the club’s targets are welcome. Please
bring friends with you, come join us and enjoy with us.
The main activities of the club are the weekly practice and social games on Friday afternoons and Sunday mornings held
in the six-court URAC Sport Hall. Club members are encouraged to participate in inter-club matches (mostly in Sydney area)
and intra-club competitions held twice per year. Each year the club aims to participate in the Eastern University Games and
the Australian University Games, depending on if there are good players to form competitive men and women’s teams.
Coaching is free for all levels of players. Along with a number of advanced and intermediate players who are always ready
to help, we have in particular a highly qualified ex-world champ of single, double and mix to do the regular coaching.
The club also conducts a number of social events each year, such as a welcoming BBQ, international food nights, bushwalks,
visits to national and international tournaments when held in Sydney, ten-pin bowling, pizza party, climbing Mt Keira, and
an end-of-year AGM dinner (with prize presentation). All are designed to create an atmosphere of fun and friendship within
the club.
